George Washington was the first President of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797.

He was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

Washington was the only president to be unanimously elected by the Electoral College. He received all 69 votes cast in the 1789 presidential election.

He was a surveyor and helped to map out the Shenandoah Valley and the western frontier of Virginia.

Washington was a skilled equestrian and enjoyed fox hunting.

He was one of the richest men in America, owning over 300 slaves and thousands of acres of land.

Washington suffered from dental problems and had several sets of false teeth made from materials such as ivory and animal teeth.

He is often called the “Father of his Country” because of his leadership during the Revolutionary War and his role in shaping the new nation.

And the final fun fact about George Washington: He was an avid reader and had a personal library of over 900 volumes.

His home, Mount Vernon, is located in Virginia and is open to visitors today.
