Must-Do Tasks for Your New Home (Before You Plop on the Couch!)

Moving into a new home is exciting — you’ve got the keys, the boxes, and big dreams of finally relaxing… but let’s be honest, your house has a few chores waiting for you first. Before you get too comfy, take a quick victory lap through your new space. Knock out a few simple tasks that will keep your home safe, comfortable, and functioning like the dream you imagined.

Start with the basics: swap those smoke detector batteries before they start chirping at 2 a.m. like a confused robot bird. Then give your HVAC a test run. Nothing says “welcome home” like warm heat in winter and cool AC in July. While you’re at it, clean your dryer vent (yes, that thing you’ve been pretending doesn’t exist). It’s a small job that saves money, boosts efficiency, and prevents unwanted lint explosions.

If your new place is in Beaverton, Aloha, Hillsboro, or Tigard, you already know fall leaves and winter rain do not play around. So give those gutters a quick check, too. Your future self will thank you during the next Oregon downpour.

And if you’re still searching for that first dream home (or prepping to sell your current one), we’re here to help. We’ll be with you every step of the way. Let’s find the perfect place for you. Maybe even celebrate with a couch flop after the checklist is done. Ready to make your move?

If you're going to pay a mortgage it may as well be your own! I'm here to serve you, not sell you. One of my greatest joys as a real estate professional is handing over the keys of ownership to a first-time home buyer. As an experienced agent, I understand that preparation is important to avoid missteps with that first home purchase. I’m here to help with navigating the waters of those potential missteps.
